For more than 50 years, STARESO has been developing and organising marine and land research topics by means of national, international and multidisciplinary projects with the University of Liege and local and international partners.

The subjects dealt with currently are:

  • Studies of the biodiversity, the structure and functioning of benthic and pelagic ecosystems on various scales of space and time;
  • The study of the temporal evolution of plankton, Posidonia seagrass and microalgae populations over the last three decades in relation to climate variations;
  • The characterisation and prediction of responses by the marine system to climate variations and anthropic disturbances with a view to better management of the coastal environment.

One of the strengths of the actions conducted at the STARESO site is the complementary aspect of the different disciplines studied.
